Lawless Reveals the Truth About Langevin’s Record

New Ad, entitled “Revealed,” highlights Langevin’s Support for Republican Agenda

WARWICK, RI – Jennifer Lawless, candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District, today unveiled the next television advertisement of her campaign, entitled “Revealed.” The ad lists the facts about Representative James Langevin’s record and notes the stark contrast between Langevin’s record and the leadership on behalf of working families that Lawless will bring to the district.

“Over the past six years, and on a range of vitally important issues, my opponent goes along with the Republican agenda and votes against the interests of Rhode Island families,” Lawless said. “From the war in Iraq, to a woman’s right to choose, to the right to privacy, too often Jim Langevin gets it wrong.

“In Congress, I’ll never stop fighting for working families – to protect our basic rights and freedoms, to stop the Bush Administration from taking us in the wrong direction, and to bring real Democratic leadership back to the U.S. Congress. I will fight back against President Bush and the Republicans where Jim Langevin has failed.”

Since he was elected to Congress in 2000, Langevin has voted with Republicans nearly 60% of the time -- over a dozen times in support of President Bush’s “stay-the-course” strategy in Iraq, 27 times against a woman’s right to choose, and consistently against the right to privacy, including votes with a majority of Republicans and against Democrats on the Patriot Act, the Terri Schiavo bill, and medical marijuana.

“Jim Langevin simply is not doing a good enough job for Rhode Island,” continued Lawless. “Where Jim Langevin has failed to lead, I will fight hard for working families against President Bush and the Republican agenda.”
