- NOW/PAC is the 4th National Organization to Endorse Lawless
WARWICK, RI – Jennifer Lawless, a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District, announced today that the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW/PAC) has officially endorsed her candidacy.
“For the past forty years, the National Organization for Women has been a leading force for women’s rights and equality,” said Lawless. “I am proud to have their support and eager to join them as we work together for positive change in Rhode Island and Washington.”
“Jennifer Lawless is an advocate for women’s rights who will back her words with actions that protect women and girls,” said Melody Drnach, NOW Vice President for Action, NOW/PAC member, and former President of Rhode Island NOW. “Advancing equal rights in today’s political climate in Washington is not easy, but Jennifer Lawless will be an energetic and passionate representative for Rhode Islanders and for all women.”
“Jennifer Lawless is a candidate with a strong record of standing up for women,” said Linda Berg, NOW Political Director. “We are very excited to support her candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives.”
“We are thrilled that NOW/PAC is endorsing Jennifer Lawless in this race,” said Carolyn Mark, a Vice President of NOW’s Rhode Island chapter. “Jen is a terrific candidate, and she will be a fantastic Representative for Rhode Island.”
The National Organization for Women is the largest organization of feminist activists in the country. With more than 500,000 contributing members, 550 chapters, and a presence in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, the National Organization for Women has been on the front lines fighting for women’s equality since 1966. In the past, NOW/PAC has supported Senators Barbara Boxer, Barbara Mikulski, and Patty Murray, and Representatives Tammy Baldwin, Nita Lowey, and Allyson Schwartz, among others.
Currently, Rhode Island ranks 37th out of the 50 states in terms of the percentage of women in the state legislature. Rhode Island does not have a single female statewide officeholder and has not elected a woman to serve in its congressional delegation in fifteen years. “Now is the time to send a woman to Washington!” said Lawless.
