Al Franken to Headline Event

• Best-Selling Author Franken and Pulitzer Prize Winner Robert Caro to Join Lawless for Event

WARWICK, R.I. - Jennifer Lawless, a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District, announced today that she will be in New York this evening for an event headlined by best-selling author Al Franken. Sponsored by the Women’s Campaign Fund (WCF) and called “Parties of Your Choice,” the event involves a large reception followed by individual dinners for several Congressional candidates endorsed by WCF.

Franken will deliver the keynote address at the reception and then travel with Lawless to headline her dinner in New York City. Lawless will speak at a private dinner before Franken, biographer Robert Caro, Representative Susan Davis (D-CA), and other guests.

“We are thrilled that Jennifer has entered this race. She is exactly the kind of thoughtful and committed leader we look to invest in – we expect her to go far,” said Ilana Goldman, President of the Women’s Campaign Fund.

Lawless is one of just twelve House candidates from around the country for whom dinners will be sponsored. Other dinner headliners include Teresa Heinz Kerry, Martha Stewart, Senator Frank Lautenberg, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, former New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen, former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift, and Representatives Charles Rangel, Rush Holt, Allyson Schwartz, Nita Lowey, Melissa Bean, and Louise Slaughter, among others.

Winner of five Emmys and two Grammy awards, Al Franken is perhaps best known for his four New York Times best-sellers, including his latest, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. Pulitzer Prize winning author Robert Caro is known for his series of biographies of President Lyndon Johnson, which includes the work, Master of the Senate.

Established in 1974, the Women’s Campaign Fund is the oldest national nonpartisan political action committee dedicated to electing pro-choice women. WCF has supported a wide range of candidates in the past and participated in more than 2,000 campaigns since its inception. These candidates include U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer, Blanche Lincoln, and Patty Murray, and U.S. Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Tammy Baldwin, and Stephanie Herseth.
