Lawless Condemns Langevin Vote FOR Patriot Act

March 7, 2006

WARWICK, RI – Jennifer Lawless, a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Rhode Island's 2nd Congressional District, this evening condemned Representative James R. Langevin for his vote in favor of renewing the USA Patriot Act.

"I am appalled that Jim Langevin has once again aligned himself with President Bush and the House Republicans to vote for the Patriot Act," said Lawless. "Rhode Island deserves a Representative in Congress who will work to protect both our nation and our civil liberties, not one who plays into the politics of fear and paranoia."

The USA Patriot Act was renewed last week by the Senate and passed the House of Representatives today, 280 - 138. Nearly two-thirds of House Democrats, including Rhode Island Representative Patrick Kennedy, voted against the bill.
