Lawless Announces Corner-to-Corner Walk of District - Walk Will Encompass All 20 Cities and Towns in 2nd District
WARWICK, RI – Jennifer Lawless, a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District, this morning announced that she will embark on a walk from one corner of Rhode Island to the other. Starting in Glocester on Tuesday, January 17, Lawless will walk during daylight hours through each of the 20 cities and towns in Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District.
“So many of the Rhode Islanders I’ve spoken with over the past few months have talked about how they feel they’re ignored by politicians,” said Lawless. “I care about issues that are relevant in every city and town. I want to show Rhode Islanders that – rain or shine, summer or winter – I’m listening. Their ideas matter to me.”
At noon on Tuesday, Lawless will begin her walk between Ponaganset High School and Hidden Spring Farm on Anan Wade Road in Glocester. She will walk through Glocester, Foster, Scituate, Johnston, Providence, Cranston, Warwick, West Warwick, Coventry, West Greenwich, East Greenwich, North Kingstown, Exeter, Richmond, Hopkinton, Westerly, Charlestown, South Kingstown, Block Island, and Narragansett. She will walk – rain or shine – every day until she reaches the final of the 20 cities and towns. Lawless will stop to speak with as many constituents as she can along the way.
“There is no question that I’m running a grassroots campaign,” said Lawless. “But I want to make it clear to Rhode Islanders that I am ready to represent their interests in Washington. Campaigns today are so focused on money and television ads that individual citizens are ignored – I believe that conversations with individual voters are crucial to our democracy. I am excited about having thousands of these conversations over the course of my campaign.”
A detailed map of the route with estimates of projected progress will be distributed on Tuesday morning. Updated progress, pictures, and stories will be tracked on Lawless’s website, www.LawlessforCongress.com.
