Lawless Youth Unleashed
RHODE ISLAND - Brown Univ. prof Jennifer Lawless (D) "doesn't have a Rhode Island background" and "almost certainly won't get the endorsement" of the RI Dem Party that will go to Rep. James Langevin (D). But Lawless, 30, "does have youth on her side" with her manager/'05 Brown grad Adam Deitch and a campaign staff made of "four other full time staffers, all under age 25." Lawless "plans to channel her staffer's energy into 'a very grassroots campaign'" with "frequent community meetings and much shoe leather." Lawless: "I need to meet every Rhode Islander. ... Rhode Island deserves innovative ideas and outspoken leaders, not people who are embedded in the Washington political establishment" (Gudrais, Providence Journal, 6/16).
Lawless has signed on to Rep. John Conyers' (D-MI) letter asking him to answer questions regarding the Downing Street Memo, and is calling on Langevin to also back the letter publicly (release, 6/17).
