Lawless endorsed by pro-choice group
PROVIDENCE - The National Women's Political Caucus has endorsed Jennifer Lawless in her race against U.S. Rep. James R. Langevin.
The organization, founded in 1971 and based in Washington, D.C., recruits, trains and supports pro-choice female candidates for elected and appointed offices, regardless of party affiliation.
Lawless, who is pro-choice, is challenging Langevin, who opposes abortion rights, in a Democratic primary.
"We endorsed her enthusiastically because she is qualified. She is bright. She would be a very good representative in Congress with respect to women's issues, especially with regard to women's reproductive rights," the caucus' president, Llenda Jackson-Leslie, said through a spokeswoman this week.
