Lawless gets monthly honor
The Women Under Forty Political Action Committee has named congressional candidate Jennifer L. Lawless its Woman of the Month. Lawless has been featured all of October on the PAC's homepage http://www.wufpac.org/, which also includes a short biography and a link to donate money to her campaign.
"The Women Under Forty PAC has been a wonderful supporter of my campaign and I am honored to be named their Woman of the Month," Lawless said in a statement. "Historically, the voices of young women have been absent from congressional policymaking. Women have a unique perspective in shaping public policy and, too often, their voices are muted."
The nonpartisan PAC supports women under 40 running for state and federal public office. It endorsed Lawless this summer. The group says that of the 535 members of the House and Senate, 26 of them are under the age of 40, with only four of those being women.
"If you believe that a legislative body should look like the population it serves, then changes need to be made," the PAC says on its Web site. "America needs young women in office to represent issues of special concern to women, such as education, work and family, breaking the glass ceiling, pay equity, child care, and reproductive issues, to name a few."
