WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - A Brown University professor is entering the race for Rhode Island's Second District congressional seat.
Jennifer Lawless kicks off her campaign this afternoon at the Community College of Rhode Island's campus in Warwick.
The 30-year-old Lawless is gunning for the seat held by Congressman Jim Langevin, also a Democrat. He's in his second term.
The primary would be next year.
Lawless teaches political science and public policy at Brown.
She believes it is critical for qualified women to run for public office.
Langevin's spokeswoman say the congressman has no comment.
