Brown Professor Enters Democratic Primary For Congress
WARWICK, R.I. - U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin, D-R.I., has at least one opponent for his next election.
Jennifer Lawless, a Brown University professor, announced Wednesday that she'll run against Langevin for his Second District seat. Lawless kicked off her campaign at an event at the Community College of Rhode Island's campus in Warwick.
Lawless, 30, teaches political science and public policy at Brown. She believes it is critical for qualified women to run for public office.
Langevin is in his third term. He announced in March that he would seek re-election to the House of Representatives in 2006 and forgo a run for U.S. Senate.
